Spotify app coming soon to Xbox One, says report

The Sony PlayStation 4 missed out on a killer Microsoft Xbox One feature a couple of years ago, when EA Access was first announced.

You want more apps on Xbox One? No? Today, however, a new report suggests that you'll soon be able to use the app on Microsoft's console.

Sony and Spotify have always maintained this was an exclusive partnership, but Spotify had never ruled out appearing on other platforms further down the line.

As reported by The Verge, sources "familiar with Spotify and Microsoft's plans" are now telling the website that the Spotify App for Xbox One will indeed arrive soon. The company's Phil Spencer also recently offered an update on Xbox One X preorders. It's unclear how it'll work on Xbox; on PS4, you can stream music in the background while playing games.

Based on this myriad of evidence, Spotify is on its way to Xbox One. Sources claim that the app is now being tested internally, and will be released soon.

Earlier this week, images popped up on Reddit, showing that Microsoft's Larry Hryb (better known in the Xbox community as Major Nelson) was using "Spotify Music - for Xbox". Sony discontinued its Music Unlimited service on the PlayStation in 2015 when it introduced Spotify for its console, and Microsoft is expected to do the same once the Spotify on Xbox One launch is ready.
