'Game of Thrones' Sunday episode reportedly leaks online after HBO hack

Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones has leaked online just days after reports emerged that hackers breached HBO's computer systems. While a leaked Game of Thrones episode (along with leaked episodes of other, less popular HBO shows) is a big deal for fans, the hack could potentially have much more serious repercussions. However, this Game of Thrones episode leak is different because it's actually not related to the hack HBO reported recently. "The new episode has leaked from Star India, one of HBO's worldwide network partners, which receives episodes in advance of air". In a statement to The Verge, Star India confirms it was the source of the leak, saying, "This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action".

Star India has confirmed the leak and has initiated an investigation.

This is a developing story.

"The hackers appear to have also leaked personal information of a senior HBO executive", Variety added, news also carried by HackRead.

The gang claims it collected 1.5 terabytes of the firm info and has revealed few episodes of Room 104 and ballers online.

HBO had stopped the normal practice of sending out advance review screeners in the build-up to the latest season of Game of Thrones, in an effort to protect its content, but was unable to prevent a week of security breaches.

Game of Thrones' seventh season airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

In a weird coincidence, hackers stole 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO, including material on fantasy series Game of Thrones, which they threatened to leak periodically, but someone else beat them to it. However, an insider at HBO believes the leak is not believed to part of the major hack of HBO.

Earlier this week, the network suffered a disruptive, unsettling, and disturbing cyber attack, which resulted in the theft of 1.5 TB data.

"Information security is a prime concern at HBO, and we assume our role and responsibility seriously to save guide information that is assigned to us".
