Reacting to the allegations, Barkati called the state minister both a "traitor" and "an RSS agent" and accused Chowdhury of creating a divide between the Hindus and Muslims. I had said that if everybody removed the beacon, so will I. After conducting a check and finding that nobody in the government was using it, I chose to remove it as well", said Barkati. But sources in police said that cops in plainclothes went in the morning and assisted the driver in removing the red beacons."Our officers had gone on Thursday also to request him to remove the beacon. The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself has not asked me to take off the red beacon.

"I don't support Imam Barkati's anti-Indian remarks, those are highly condemnable". Barkati was earlier reported to have said.

"If an Indian citizen sides with Pakistan then he should go to Pakistan", Chowdhury said at a press conference on Saturday evening. "Nobody will stop him", Chowdhury added. "In Bengal, no one has removed red beacon", Barkati told PTI. The Sangh Parivar is spreading its agenda of Hindutva across the country and just like there was jihad against the British tyranny, in India too there will be jihad against the RSS if they try to make India into a Hindu nation. "Then give us Pakistan, we will fight for Pakistan", Barkati further said, going a step ahead.

State Library and Mass Education Minister Maulana Siddiqullah Chaudhary criticised Barkati for defying the order saying that a Shahi Imam does not require a beacon.

A large police force present on spot separated the two groups.

However, according to the latest update came in, Barkati has lodged a complaint against Siddiqullah Chowdhury and his Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind at Bowbazar Police Station.
