Boy Dies After Getting Stuck at Atlanta Rotating Restaurant

A 5-year-old boy died Friday after being crushed to death by a revolving restaurant in Atlanta. "At some point the child.wandered away from the table", she said. The boy was reportedly pinned between the rotating floor and wall of the structure.

A spokesperson with Atlanta police says the child' body got caught between a wall and the rotating floor.

When the restaurant began to rotate, the boy's head somehow became caught between the rotating floor and a wall, prompting the floor to stop as it was created to do if something were to become caught.

The boy, whose head was caught within about 13cm of space, according to police, was identified as Charles Holt of Charlotte, North Carolina, an investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said on Saturday.

Another report by 11alive said first responders were at the restaurant "in a matter of minutes" but the boy was unconscious when he was rushed to the Grady Memorial Hospital and later died.

The restaurant will remain closed for the weekend. The boy's head already suffered the brunt of the injury.

The hotel's manager, George Reed, issued a statement offering condolences to the family.

The restaurant is known for slowly rotating at the top of the Westin Hotel.

Westin's manager said, "Words can not express the depths of our sorrow".

"The child was in the restaurant having lunch with his family and doing what small children do, the child's 5 years old", said Sgt. Pickard.
