Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross set for Geneva motor show debut

The Eclipse name was used for a sports vehicle produced by Mitsubishi from 1990 to 2012.

The Qashqai's £18,500 starting price is the one to watch though, and Mitsubishi has a fairly clear target at which to pitch its Eclipse Cross. Instead, you'll be cruising in an all-new compact crossover.

Mitsubishi has revealed more details and pictures of its upcoming all-new SUV, which will make its first public appearance during next month's Geneva Motor Show.

The vehicle will feature a high-saturation red body color meant to evoke the brilliance of the sun's halo flaring from behind the moon.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is back, only this time around it's an SUV and has a "Cross" attached to its name.

"The Eclipse Cross's handsome, dynamic form serves to bring about the same sense of excitement and inspiration as the diamond ring seen immediately before and after a total solar eclipse does", Mitsubishi said. On the road, the Eclipse Cross will emanate a sharp and active appearance.

The Eclipse Cross will slot between the small Outlander Sport and the larger, three-row Outlander in the brand's lineup. Being a sporty compact SUV, the 2017 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV is also expected to be coming with a four-wheel-drive system and an optional automatic transmission.

With the 2017 Geneva Motor Show already scheduled to take place next month, several vehicle manufacturers are already releasing their different marketing teasers for their new models.
